Genetic Mapping

The first genetic map on banana, based on a wild segregating population, is currently being constructed at CIRAD using molecular markers: RFLP, AFLP and microsatellites (STMS).

Segregating populations

  • Development of segregating populations of wild M. acuminata with wild M. balbisiana and ABB cultivated types with AA and AAA cultivars (IIHR)
  • Development of segregating population of M. acuminata ssp malaccencis (UM).
  • Development of segregating populations for the identification of disease and pest resistance markers or genes (NARO)
  • Screening segregating population for parthenocarpy to identify parthenocapy markers using AFLPs and SSRs (NARO)
  • Developement of mapping population from contrasting wild BB types (Beeheekela x Bhimathia) (IIHR)
  • Development of segregating populations. (IITA)

Genetic mapping

  • Development of a map of an F2 population from M. acuminata burmannicoides 'Calcutta 4' and M. acuminata banksii 'Madang' to analyse resistance to M. fijiensis (CIRAD)
  • F1 Seedlings from the Crosses between Musa acuminata X wild M. balbisiana have been generated for mapping purpose (IIHR)
  • F1 population from cross between contrasting cultivars/wild accession have been developed for fusarium wilt  and nematode resistance (IIHR)
  • F1 population by crossing Calcutta 4 and Psang Lillin have been developed to establish whether the population segregates for parthenocarpy (NARO)
  • Application of Musa RGAs as polymorphic markers for genetic mapping (UCB, CIRAD, EMBRAPA)
  • Analysis of linkage disequilibrium (IITA)

Comparative mapping

  • Evaluation of rice-based "conserved intron scanning primers" for PCR amplification in Musa (UGA)
