de novo whole genome sequence of the B genome on-going

A reference de novo whole genome sequence of the B genome anchored to the 11 Musa chromosomes is currently being produced by the HaiKou Experimental Station,Institute of Banana and Plantain (HKESIBP, PI: Zhiqiang Jin, China) and  Institute of Tropical Bioscience and Biotechnology (ITBB, PI:  Zhiqiang Jin, Biyu Xu, China) in collaboration with BGI (PI: Xiaodong Fang, China) and Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement (CIRAD,  PI: Angélique D'Hont, France) in the frame of the Global Musa Genomic Consortium (GMGC).

The sequenced genotype is a doubled-haploid from Pisang Klutuk Wulung (DH-PKW) obtained at Cirad. A mapping population to anchor the sequence has been developed in Cirad-Guadeloupe with Pisang Klutuk Wulung and is being genotyped with the support of Bioversity international through the CRP Root Tubers and Bananas (RTB). This project intends to provide a reference sequence for the Musa balbisiana genomes that will enhance further analyses of cultivated bananas composed of both the A and B genomes.
